Titanium & Steel
Students’ frames are nearly finished. Here are eight of them. Titanium and steel.
This has been a very great semester.
I get a number inquiries by folks, outside the university, to take the courses and build a bicycle frame. The amount of work a student dedicates to building their bicycle frame is way beyond what is typical for a university course. The last three weeks a student might spend 15 hours each week working, beyond the 4 hours we meet for class. And up to that point, on average, 8-10 hours a week. It is very hard to find this amount of time to dedicate to the course when you work full time.
It feels great at this time of the semester when you can ask a student to get a certain frame specific tool and they know exactly what it is where to find it. Or, “Katie will you set up the vice on the mill and switch out the whole saw to a 32mm one?” Or, “Cory, will you work with Nate to be sure the seat stays are correctly in phase?”
