Post-Canyonlands
This was an awesome trip! We will be back next year.
My buddy Aaron uses the word campaign to capture chasing and researching weather (his current campaign is storms that produce large hail).
I designed and then built a bicycle to ride Canyonlands National Park. The Design, Build,Ride Canyonlands Campaign will have multiple locations and bicycle iterations when it is completed.
See that road down in the canyon? The bike is leaning against a wall atop a thousand foot hike-a-bike. The climbs begin with unassuming punchier hills and then spit out false summit after false summit. Until you stop and look down to the road a thousand feet below. Where you were 30 minutes or and hour earlier. When I’d get to the top of a climb I’d feel like, “okay it’s done, on to the next.” Half way up a climb with my heart rate constantly pushing 88% of max, I’d remind myself how many times I’d been here before. After 3-4 minutes at 88%, I’d stop, grip my brake lever, and let my hr drop below 70%, and then onward (and upward).
