Post-Badlands

We had a great ride in the North Dakota Badlands and Little Missouri National Grasslands! The Maah Daah Hey Trail, the country’s longest single-track trail and largest grassland.

Dan, Gary, John and Brant. The last day it was 103 degrees! We always camped at a US Forest Service Campground.

A challenging route. Drank 10 liters a day. Usually 6 liters over 9 hours of riding and then 4 after we set up camp until sunrise. It’s always crazy how little I eat during the day on a long hot ride like this. Maybe 1,200 calories between breakfast and supper and then another 1,000. But I burn around 8,800 a day.

The day after though, I’m so hungry I could eat the ass out of a 10-day old dead rhinoceros .

Brooks: “ grandpa, I’m going to ride my bike with poisonous rattlesnakes…..” We actually saw four of them.
