DBR: The Driftless Region
Riding single speed, no matter how uncomfortable it might feel getting passed or walking up hills, is living in the truth, which, once we get the hang of it, contains its own adventure wisdom, as it were. The wisdom of single speed is inarguable because the truth is what is – the hills, walking, spinning out.
I ride 2/1, 34 (tooth chain ring) x 17 (tooth cog). It might not be fully appreciated, but hills are a single speeders friend when it comes to mph. A lot of the time. Not always, I guess.
One last bikepacking ride before school starts. Driftless Area. 13k of climb in 275 miles
I’m hoping this trip, a 3-4 day one, allows me to get in good Driftless miles before the hilliest event in the country on August 31.
